Shiraz Aziz has been involved in the Criminal Justice System since 1996.

He was called to the Bar in October 1997. He has also been admitted to the Bar of Guyana in 1998, and Admitted as a Solicitor Higher Court Advocate in the UK, specialising in Criminal Law. He will also be admitted at the Eastern Caribbean Bar in June 2005.

Since then (1997) he has been involved in many criminal cases acting on behalf of persons who have been charged with a wide and varied range of criminal offences, ranging from Road Traffic Offences to Drugs/Drug Trafficking/Fraud and Murder. As an advocate Shiraz has been acting in his own right in many serious, and serious and organised criminal matters and recently defended a large money laundering case with success, furthermore he has also been led by many Queens Counsel in the UK and Senior Counsel in the Caribbean Commonwealth on major cases as mentioned above. He has worked on R v McKenna, R v Kempster, R v Iroegbu, R v Lambert, R v Boodram, R v Ramdhanie & Ors, Shiraz is also a specialist in Environmental Crime, dealing with matters from noise pollution to dumping of toxic and hazardous waste. He has also represented clients under relatively new law and policy to prosecute parents for not having secured their childrens attendance at school, challenging the concept of "parental responsibility". This is still under review.

Shiraz has practiced in the Caribbean jurisdiction and is associated with the top human rights chambers in Trinidad and Tobago and from June 2005, leading barristers in criminal work in St Vincent, Fredericks Attorneys. He has been appointed as a consultant to chambers in St. Vincent. In addition to this Shiraz is also involved and will be doing more work in the near future representing persons who have been charged and appear before the International Tribunals in various other countries, such as the ICTY and ICTR. Shiraz became a solicitor in 2001 and has retained Higher Court Rights giving him a new title of Higher Court Advocate of which there not many allowing him to practice in any court in England and Wales dealing with Criminal Proceedings. Shiraz is the Head of the Criminal Department at this firm and is always available to assist or provide information in relation to any criminal proceeding and/or procedure, including advocacy training.
